My name is Charlie Walker and I act as the web coordinator and historian for the USS Fletcher DD 992 website, www.dd992.org. The reason I am writing this email to you is that the Paul F Foster DD 964 appears to be the only remaining intact Spruance class destroyer left. I have started a movement with a few 992 shipmates who believe strongly that one of these fine ships needs to be a museum piece. We also have a shipmate who regularly works with the SDTS and is on location with her. Some of my shipmates found your website and I decided to send this email to you as our first point of contact. I believe that we will need the efforts of your website as well as many of the other Spruance class websites shipmates to work together collectively to bring Foster to a museum status once her mission as SDTS is completed. I also have contact with Fosters first CO and he was kind enough to take the time out in Pearl to photograph Fletchers tow out as a target ship. Great guy.
So, I would like to know if the Oldendorf shipmates would join with the 992 shipmates in this joint effort to save the Foster. It won't be easy and will take a lot of time......but the Foster could represent all 31 Spruance class destroyers.
